There are no good options in dealing with the Taliban

In its editorial the Guardian describes the difficulties in dealing with the Taliban without any presence in the country.

While the West warns the Taliban that they have to earn their diplomatic recognition

“if the new regime … wants diplomatic recognition or to unlock the billions currently frozen”

the reality is that due to the competing interests of Russia and China

“the notion that the west can continue to call the shots and impose its terms is wishful thinking.”
