Turkmenistan Says Kabul Backs TAPI Gas Pipeline Project

Turkmenistan says the Taliban-led government in neighboring Afghanistan has vowed to ensure the completion and security of a pipeline project to bring Turkmen natural gas to Pakistan and India via Afghan territory.

The 1,800-kilometer Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline is projected to run from the Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan to the Indian city of Fazilka, passing through Herat and Kandahar in Afghanistan and Quetta and Multan in Pakistan.

Taliban urges airlines to restore flights to ‘fully operational’ Kabul airport

Afghanistan’s Taliban-run government is urging airlines to restore services to the Central Asian state, insisting that the main international airport at Kabul is open.

Foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi, through his official social media feed, states that the airport is “fully operational for domestic and international flights”, and problems at the facility “have been resolved”.

Afghan saffron boss says Taliban will not silence her

An Afghan business leader who employs hundreds of women on her saffron fields has vowed to speak up for the rights of her workers, and “not remain silent” under Taliban rule.

The hardliners have increasingly excluded women from public life since sweeping to power in mid-August, pushing many female entrepreneurs to flee the country or go into hiding.

Mapping Afghanistan’s untapped natural resources

Deep beneath the ground in one of the world’s poorest countries sits at least $1 trillion of untapped mineral resources, according to a report published by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum [PDF]. The South Asian country of 38 million people is estimated to hold more than 2.2 billion tonnes of iron ore, 1.3 billion tonnes of marble and 1.4 million tonnes of rare earth minerals.
